We had dinner at the San Juan Cafe this past weekend after a fabulous experience at a Cuban restaurant in FL. It’s a small place close to downtown and the decor was more “bar” than “Cuban” to me, but that’s okay. We sat on the bar side and enjoyed a couple of drinks and the complementary chips and salsa while browsing the menu. I had an infusion cocktail that was on special, infused tequila in a margarita to be exact. The bf had a tequila drink as well. The drinks were good but I couldn’t really taste the “infusion”. For entrees I had a shrimp dish and the bf had beef. The entrees were pricey, which I was okay with until they brought out my entree with a total of 5 shrimp. Around $15 for 5 shrimp? That’s a little much. But the shrimp were very good and I loved the polenta underneath, and the bf really liked his entree. For dessert I ordered the vanilla flan, and I have to say it may have been the best flan I’ve ever tasted! It was just right and a perfect end to the meal. As we enjoyed dessert the chef came out to check on us, which is a nice touch. The only downside was that we were both hungry within 2 hours of leaving. Overall, I’d recommend San Juan, just not if you’re looking for a hearty meal. It’s more of a date night type of place.
