The boyfriend and I visited Genki on a Friday evening a couple of weekends back. First thought that comes to mind is “authentic”. Much more so than most Japanese restaurants/sushi bars we see around here (as if anyone thinks that the Hibachi Super Express buffet is authentic! lol). The place is smaller but is decorated nicely and is very clean from what we saw. Now, my boyfriend is definitely not a sushi person, so we were pleased that they also had options for the more “conservative” American diner. I was personally pleased that they do have an extensive sushi/sashimi/maki menu as well! I ordered the spyder roll and a bowl of fried rice, and I must say that they were both good…but I’ve had better. The service, on the other hand, was awesome. After we had ordered and were waiting for our entrees, our server brought us out a small appetizer tray (on the house) with four different things to choose from. I really liked the edamame and red snapper in vinegar sauce (the warm was better than the cold). Luckily for me, my boyfriend is a food snob, so since he wouldn’t even try it I got to eat it all! :) Our server was very attentive the entire time we were there, couldn’t have asked for better. I really think next time we’re in town we may try this place again - it’s hard to say if a place is good or bad after just one visit, and it was good enough to warrant a second try!
